Parsed references are those that Edifix has successfully broken down into their component parts. For example, when Edifix parses the following sample reference:

1. Molter C, O'Neill J, Yamaguchi Y, et al. Rhythmic modulation of theta oscillations supports encoding of spatial and behavioral information in the hippocampus. Neuron. 2012;75:887-3

Edifix identifies "Molter" as the first author's last name, "C" as the first author's initial, "Neuron" as the journal title, "75" as the volume number, etc.

Parsing is the first step before Edifix restructures the reference into the selected editorial style. References that are restructured are billable and are therefore deducted from your reference allowance.

Not all references that are parsed are restructured, however. Some reference types – such as conference proceedings – are difficult for Edifix to restructure accurately. References that are not parsed, or that are parsed but are not restructured, are not considered billable and will not be deducted from your reference allowance.
