In general, references will not be deducted from your reference allowance if Edifix does not restructure or link your references according to the selected editorial style. References will be deducted, however, if Edifix fully parses your reference. Parsing - or identifying the unique parts of the reference, such as author surname, volume, and publication year - is the first step before Edifix restructures the reference into the selected editorial style, or outputs your reference in a structured format.

A few billing guidelines to keep in mind:

  1. If an editorial style is selected (i.e., anything other than No Format), reference credits will be deducted if Edifix (a) parses AND restructures a reference or (b) parses enough of the reference (i.e., authors, title, and year) that it links to Crossref or PubMed.
  2. If Edifix parses and restructures your reference, and the resulting references are exactly the same as ones you submitted, reference credits will still be deducted. In this case, Edifix is confirming that the references are correctly styled, so that you don't have to do the manual work of checking it yourself.
  3. If No Format is selected, reference credits will be deducted if Edifix fully parses your reference. In this case, Edifix is providing granularity to references exported in XML or RIS format.
