If you intend to import your Edifixed references into reference management software, you should select the (Citation Manager Format) as your editorial style. Unlike other editorial styles offered by Edifix, this option does not re-style your references. However, Edifix will still identify each element in your reference and can link and correct your references with information from PubMed and Crossref.

Note: The RIS style option is identical to the (Citation Manager Export Format). Either can be used to accomplish the same task.

The (Citation Manager Export Format) and RIS style options were designed to retain all information in your references without re-arranging the various reference elements. This makes it easier to integrate your Edifixed references with your favorite reference manager via the RIS export.

But what is RIS?

RIS format is a standardized tag format developed by Research Information Systems Inc. to enable citation programs to exchange data. It is supported by most widely used reference management software products, such as EndNote and Mendeley.

The different elements of the reference are each identified by a two-character tag name, starting with TY for Reference Type and ending with ER (End of Reference). The following APA6-styled reference:

Istrail, S., Sutton, G. G., Florea, L., Halpern, A. L., Mobarry, C. M., Lippert, R., . . .Venter, J. C. (2004, February 17). Whole-genome shotgun assembly and comparison of human genome assemblies. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 101(7), 1916–1921.
